House Recladding

Exterior cladding repairs are common for weather tightness to insulate, modernise and improve the aesthetics of a home or building. House Cladding specialists will often improve your insulation by layering an additional barrier to your exterior, acting against the elements, keeping your house warm in winter or cool in summer. Exterior wall repairs in both Christchurch and Auckland are still a common flood and earthquake-related repair requirement due to initial inspections from inexperienced contractors overlooking, missing or not repairing following the correct procedures. Here's an example of a home that Wrightway Construction was hired to project manage and correct the work of another contractor.

This home wasn't appropriately fixed, causing the owner considerable stress. As you can see, the cladding repairs were not prepared correctly, and the plaster is now falling off, only months after the repair was initially completed. Wrightway was contracted to redeem the issue, undertake the cladding repairs correctly and provide the homeowner with a guarantee of workmanship for a minimum of 10 years. Recladding a house isn't a simple job, it's best left to experienced construction specialists and to consider ongoing maintenance.

Types Of Exterior Cladding & Recladding

The most common types of work that our exterior cladding specialists in New Zealand are contracted for includes timber weatherboard cladding, brick cladding and stucco. Cedar is traditionally quite expensive and although a beautiful design aesthetic, it's less common, and usually only designed into high-end, architectural, Auckland homes.

Cedar Cladding

Cedar Cladding isn't very common in Christchurch, but you do find it in high-end spec homes, mostly in Auckland. Particularly in older housing. A Cedar clad is usually used in new, upmarket spec homes and is very durable. The repair process is the same process as timber weatherboard cladding.

Timber Weatherboard Cladding

Again, Timber is the most common of materials to finish or clad an Auckland or Christchurch home with, specifically amongst older housing. The most common problem we have with timber weatherboard is that timber tends to get Wood Borer and rots. We usually replace the weatherboards and undertake borer treatment.

Stucco Cladding

Wrightway Construction handles a large quantity of Stucco cladding repairs in older homes. After the Christchurch earthquake, many of the older houses experienced exterior cracking and required extensive repairs and renovations.

Brick Cladding

This is one of the most common types of exterior cladding in Christchurch specifically. Brick buildings experienced cracking during the 2011 earthquakes that now require grind-out, repointing and, as a worst-case scenario, a complete re-clad process (Re-bricking). Here is an example of Brick re-clad work that wasn't done correctly. Again, Wrightway Construction has been contracted to rectify.
